Networking Groups - L' établissement d'un réseau de contacts

We have decided to create this page to allow people to list networking groups and or organizations. They do say that most jobs or opportunities come from your network. So if you don't have a network, join one. There are so many out there, there is one for you. These networks can be cultural, subject specific, professional, or location related. Hey you can even start your own.

Happy Networking! You never know you might meet your next employer, your next client, your spouse,.... Get involved people, get out there. It's a great time of the year to do this. The cafes in Montreal have opened up their outdoor dinning/sitting areas.

If you know of any networking group and others might benefit please let the Webmaster know. Thanks.

Also don't forget the EX-Nortel Networking Groups and web sites.

Executives Available / Cadres Disponibles

If you're over 35 years old and live in the West Island area, there's an organization called Executives Available that you might be interested in. No, you don't have to be a former "executive" -- anyone over 35 with a university degree and sufficient work experience qualifies.

189 boul. Hymus, Suite 405

Pointe-Claire, Quebec H9R 1E9

Tel. 514.697.2227

They're located in the office tower in the middle of the "Zeller's Shopping Plaza" on the northeast corner of the St-Jean and Hymus intersection. This organization facilitates contacts between displaced experienced people and companies looking for experienced talent. They do not charge any fees to either employees or employers; their operating expenses are paid for by Emploi Quebec [i.e. we've been paying for their services for years through our employment insurance deductions]. They have an enviable track record; currently, 67% of their members find suitable employment within 90 days. They claim that this is better than ALL existing recruiting agencies in the over-40 category. Note, however, that they are not a recruiting or placement agency; they simply facilitate placements by providing a contact network and meeting facilities, etc. We're still individually responsible for finding work.

One of the counselors is Denyse Manseau, who is very knowledgable and pleasant. Call to make an apointment to see her and get the details on how the organization works. You'll need to bring a hardcopy of your resume, your social insurance number, and BTW, business attire is required at the centre (i.e. wear a shirt and tie).

Club Telecom

The Club Telecom is a Montreal based organization. Who's objectives are to promote:

  • a forum to exchange amongst the various members of the telecommunication industry.
  • the networking between the companies.
  • solid bases for concerted actions.
  • the creation of strategic alliances and business partnerships.
  • closer links between SME and the large companies and between the companies and the members of the research community.

All this, in order to contribute to find solutions to the challenges facing the companies.

Keynet Networking Group

The name of the networking group is called Keynet, meaning a network of key people. David Rowley heads the organization. It is a private group that's not only for IT but for 10 of the most technical fields which includes aeronautics, IT, pharmaceutical, etc. It is not really a career search group although one can use it to meet people across a broad spectrum of professionals (includes lawyers, accountants, and business people in addition to web developers, software designers, engineers, etc).

Main Objective:

Provide quality information to the members. Help people progress in their careers or their businesses. There's a lot of leverage with so many ideas. Meet the right people. Talk to the right degree of depth. Network with key resources and professionals.

Fees: None.

Committment:

Contribution of ideas, information, and advice. It may be referral of who to talk to or consultative technical advice away from the forum. There are weekly meetings you can attend (some at 7:15 AM). The more you contribute, the more you get out of it when you do need help.

Membership: Thousands of people.

Meetings:

You have one minute to say what you're doing and what you need. Someone who can will give you the information you need

Consulting:

Opportunities to give your ideas to start-up businesses. No pay, but opportunities to get stock options in the companies from the ground up.

The above information has been obtained from Ed Chin. Thanks. Ed. Please contact Ed if you need more information about this group.
